Created by Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy, and Reggie Brown in 2011, Snapchat brings forth a unique feature wherein messages – known as Snaps – exchanged are automatically deleted once viewed unless the user saves them.
Users can also change the duration of visibility of sent messages/snaps. It can be deleted either ‘After viewing’ or ’24 hours after viewing.’ Some striking features of the app are as follows:
- Bitmoji: It is a personal avatar that act as a profile picture and represents you on the application. You have the option to choose your outfit, facial appearance, and background colors. Bitmojis are fun and are visible to users who want to follow you. These cartoon avatars are customizable in chat conversations and can be used as stickers.
- Snap Streak: When you share snaps with a friend for at least three consecutive days, a streak is created. The fire icon next to your friend’s name tracks the number of days the snaps have been exchanged consecutively between you and that friend. Maintaining a consistent streak is popular on Snapchat.
- Spotlight: This feature is similar to TikTok and Instagram Reels and showcases the short video community from across the Snapchat community.
- Snap Map: It lets your friends see your live location in real-time, allowing them to know exactly where you are. If you prefer privacy, you can easily activate Ghost Mode to hide your location whenever you want.
- Snapchat Memories: Using the memories feature you can save and revisit snaps and stories from the past and share it again with your friends to create a sense of nostalgia.
- Snapcode: Every Snapchat user has a unique QR code that can be scanned with the app to add friends, unlock filters, and more.
- Filters: Snapchat gained momentum due to its quirky and jazzy filters. These filters are a great way to enhance your snaps and build engagement with others.
- Geofilters: These are special filters that display the user’s live location over their snap. You can use these filters to build awareness for an event or promote a specific location.
- Snapchat Stories: These stories are similar to Instagram stories, with the added feature that notifies you when a viewer takes a screenshot.
